FAQs

Q: Are the residents allowed independence?

Independence is highly encouraged with staff guidance.

Q: Are there scheduled activities for the residents?

Yes, our Certified Recreational Therapist strives to develop purpose driven activities.  She leads the staff to provide stimulating activities to meet residents’ skill level and interests while maintaining useful life skills and self esteem.

Q: Are there three meals a day?

Yes, three meals are served every day.  There is a selection of entrees available at all meals.

Q: Are there worship services weekly?

Yes, a weekly non-denominational worship service is held in addition to a weekly hymn sing.

Q: Can residents have pets?

If the resident is able to care for their pet, they may keep a pet in their room.  We love to have pets come for a visit, and we find this is often more appropriate for our residents rather than keeping a pet in their unit.

Q: Can we bring personal items for our family member’s room?

We encourage residents and families to personalize their units with their belongings, hang pictures on the walls, and make it their own home.

Q: Is there a nurse on the premises 24 hours/day?

Yes, there is a nurse in Thalman Square 24 hours/day in addition to the Director of Thalman Square (The Mayor) who is a Registered Nurse and is in the unit full time.

Q: May out of town guests stay with a resident in their unit?

A friend or family member may stay in the unit with the resident if this is agreeable to the resident and staff is aware of the plan.

Q: What are the additional charges besides the daily rate?

The daily rate covers all expenses except the cost of medications and incontinence products, beauty/barber shop charges, the cost of internet connection (if resident has a computer), and the cost of their telephone line.  There are not additional costs for cares – all cares are included in the daily rate.

Q: What is the atmosphere like in Thalman Square?

A family, residential atmosphere.  Residents spend much of their day in the Town Square interacting with other residents and staff.  Family members who are visiting become acquainted with all the residents and other families.
