Our Spiritual care team focuses on building trusting relationships with residents, staff, and their families. Much of our time is spent visiting, counseling, and walking alongside residents in all levels of care offered in the Western Home Communities, including hospitalizations, crisis, and hospice care.

The Alice Isenhower Fund allows for Mark and our Spiritual Care Team to intentionally connect with Western Home Communities residents in personal and meaningful ways through caring and compassionate visits.

  • Mark Eggleston, our visitation chaplain, makes over 2,000 connections each year with residents and staff to lend a listening ear, have a faith-inspired conversation or provide a scripture passage and prayer.

  • A strong foundation of faith keeps the Western Home Communities firmly tied to its mission as a charitable Christian service organization, and connecting with others is at the heart of the work. The Alice Isenhower Connection Endowment Fund provides for one chaplain to be entirely focused on building meaningful relationships with residents, especially those who may be lonely, grieving, or struggling.

This fund began with a love for Iowa Hawkeye football that spanned over a century. At 103, Alice Isenhower was a Hawkeye Superfan who connected with Iowa teammates CJ Beathard and Ike Boettger. The players arranged a bye-week visit with Alice in Cedar Falls. The players arrived at her room at 10:45 p.m., and she was excitedly waiting. That visit led to several other visits from the players, igniting a call to provide regular visits for residents who spend time alone.

As Ike and CJ graduated from the University of Iowa and went on to play NFL football, they never lost sight of the value of personal visits. In 2018, they both were inspired to give a generous donation, starting the Alice Isenhower Connection Fund.

This fund allows Fresh Wind Spiritual Care to accomplish visits in personal and powerful ways each day. Please consider a generous gift that would allow this important work to continue.
